Along with the interactive stats we have published for the Ladies knock out cup, we have gone back through the records for the last five years to produce a five year ranking list for the event that will show every team that has taken part in the event over that period.

We have adopted the same points system that we use for the men’s section. Even though, the men’s section is more than twice the size. The reasons for doing this are that it means winning the ladies section has the same value, in points, as winning the men’s section.

It also allows for any expansion of the ladies event in future years but maintain the same points system over any expansion. The event has changed shape over the life of this ranking list.

It covers a period of time that goes from only having 24 teams involved up to the present day’s 40. When awarding the ranking points we have used a top down rather than a bottom up. This means that we have awarded the same number of points for winning the events regardless of the number of teams that took part.

This has been spread through each of the years this list covers so that where there are less than 32 teams taking part no points were awarded for the “missing” teams. In a nut shell the teams of yesteryear get the same points for reaching any given round that the present day teams get.

We have gone back over the years and amended all previous incarnations of a team to, where known, their present day name.

So if they were called Kentish town Angels. We have then added the points for London Angels together to give everyone a better understanding of the team’s year on year performance over the years.

Where the team name has changed but the linage is not so clear cut we have left the teams as separate entities.

From this year however, when a team changes their team name it will be treated as a new team and have to build your points up again from scratch. The reason for doing this is because we want this to be a historical document as well as a reference for all to read and it can’t be factual if a team name keeps changing it’s name but retains it’s ranking points.

The way it’s been done wipes out every trace of many previous team names from 2003 to 2008 in the record books which is unfair on the team name that built up the points. But it has to be done to go forward and give a true record, where known, of a team’s true position in the list. Rather than a number of separate entries for what is basically the same team.

Where we have missed a team’s transformation from one name to another and it can be proved that it is still the same team we will update the list to it’s modern day equivalent along with the ranking points.

However, please note that from here on any ranking points gained will stay with the team name that earned them. This is to ensure that the ranking list maintains integrity with the results listed elsewhere.

In future please make sure you are certain it’s what you want to do when thinking about changing your team names because you will not be able to bring any points accrued with you (there will be exceptions but the rule will be generally be applied across the board).

After all that has been said above, this listing is just for fun. It only relates to performances in the in the ladies interleague championships as was and the National Ladies Knockout cup as it is known now.

We use a five year rollover for the Ladies National Knock out cup so it's a level playing field for all teams and the points system will remain. This list only has the teams that have played in the event from 2003 to 2008. We hope you enjoy it as it takes a lot of time and effort to compile.
