INTER COUNTY REPORT 2019

Over Thirteen Hundred attended Vauxhall Holiday Park for the Inter County finals weekend.


UNDER 23s INTERCOUNTY
The Under 23 section got under way on Thursday 28th February. We were one team short and the bye went to Bristol. There were comfortable wins for Leicestershire, Staffordshire, Gloucestershire, Derbyshire, Warwickshire, and Cambridgeshire. The other match between West Yorkshire and Somerset ended 10 all and went to a play-off where Alex Bishop won for West Yorks, but Daniel Davy, and Bradley Ellison won for Somerset to put them through to the next round.

In the quarter finals there were wins for Leicestershire, Gloucestershire, Warwickshire, and Somerset. In the semi's, Leicestershire made a good start going 4-1 ahead but pulled back level after the second session and although they lost the third session 3-2, won four frames in the final leg to take the match 11-8. Warwickshire went ahead from the start of the other semi and never looked back as they ran out 11-5 winners.

In the final it was Gloucs off to a good start going 4-1 ahead but Warwicks won the second leg 3-2, only for Gloucs to win the third with another 4-1. Warwicks made them fight all the way before securing an 11-8 victory,


UNDER 23s KO CUP
In the KO Cup Sussex, Northants, Cambridgeshire, and West Yorkshire made the semi-finals. Northants had a comfortable win over West Yorks 11-3, but Sussex, and Cambs went to a play-off where Luke Gilbert and Nathan Sanders won the two frames to put Cambs into the final where it was Cambs who had a comfortable 11-6 victory.



SENIORS INTERCOUNTY
Thursday evening and it was the Seniors section which got under way. West Yorks, Surrey, Warwickshire A, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, and Essex all had wins. The other match went to a play-off, and with the tie at one each Alan Hayden potted the black to win it for GMC but the cue ball rolled on and followed the black into the pocket to win it for Staffordshire B 16-15.

In the quarter finals Surrey beat West Yorks, Staffs B beat Warwickshire A, Lincs beat Notts, and Essex beat Northumberland.

In the semi's Lincs beat a strong Essex team 15-10, Staffs B beat Surrey 15-8.
In the final Staffs B who were so lucky to get through the first round lost the first leg 4-3, but hit back strongly in the second with a 6-1 win. Lincs hit back with a 5-2 win in the third and won the first two frames in the final leg to go 21-11 ahead, but Staffs then won the next four frames to take the match 15-12.


SENIORS KO CUP
In the KO Cup Warwickshire A beat Wiltshire 15-13, GMC beat West Yorks 15-6. Northumberland beat Cornwall 15-11, and West Midlands A beat Notts 15-6.
The semi-finals saw Northumberland beat Warwicks A 15-8, and West Mids A beat GMC 15-6.

In the final, Northumberland went 5-2 ahead and then won the second leg 6-1, but West Mids hit back to win the third leg 6-1 before Northumberland ran out 15-11 winners.



MENS B INTERCOUNTY
Friday evening saw the start of the Mens B section. Leics beat Staffs 23-18, West Yorks beat Cleveland 23-8, Beds beat Kent 23-16, Northants beat Lancs 23-10, Warwicks beat Surrey 23-16, Devon beat West Mids 23-14, Cornwall beat Northumberland 23-4. In the other match it was very close all the way before Essex beat Derbyshire 23-21.

In the quarter finals Essex this time lost 23-21 to Beds, Leics beat West Yorks 23-17, Warwicks beat Northants 23-19, and Cornwall beat local rivals Devon 23-18.

In the semi's Cornwall made a flying start winning the first leg 9-2 and never really looked back as they won the match 23-15; a similar story in the other semi saw Leics win the first leg 9-2 and go on to win the match 23-10.

Cornwall made the better start in the final with a 6-5 first leg win, but Leics won the second leg 7-4 to take the lead. They never looked back as they ran out winners 23-16.


MENS B KO CUP
In the KO Cup Staffs beat Essex 23-17, Kent beat West Yorks 23-13, West Mids beat Northants 23-18, and the other match went to a play-off where Alan Gomez, and Mark Hollingdale won the two frames for Surrey to go through.

In the semi's Staffs beat Surrey 23-17, and West Mids had to win the last three frames to beat Kent 23-21.

In the final Staffs got off to a great start winning the first leg 9-2, but West Mids hit back to take the second leg 6-5, and then won the third 7-4 to trail 18-15, but Staffs held on to win the match23-19.



MENS A INTERCOUNTY
In the Mens A section Berkshire the holders made a good start beating West Yorks 23-11, Humberside had a close match in edging out Lancs 23-21, Leics beat Warwicks 23-15, London beat Tyne & Wear 23-12, West Mids beat Devon 23-18,Gloucs beat Cornwall 23-19. Another close match saw Beds beat Northants 23-21, and Norfolk beat Staffs 23-17.

In the quarter finals Leics beat Humberside 23-17, Berkshire won a Region Seven duel with London 23-11, West Mids had a narrow 23-21 win over Gloucs, and Norfolk beat fellow Region Four side Beds 23-14

In the semi's Leics had a comfortable 23-15 win over Berkshire, but in the other semi West Mids won the first five frames, and the first leg 7-4, but Norfolk hit back winning the second leg 8-3, another 7-4 to West Mids in the third, a close battle down the final leg, and West Mids won it in the final frame 23-21.

In the final West Mids went ahead 6-5, but a 7-4 second leg and 8-3 third leg win put Leics in command. They went on to win 23-17.


MENS A KO CUP
In the KO Cup Lancs beat London 23-17, Humberside beat West Yorks 23-14, Cornwall beat Beds 23-16, and Staffs beat Gloucs 23-13 to progress to the semi-finals.

In the semi's Staffs won the first three legs by the odd frame 6-5 and won the match 23-18. In the other semi Cornwall made a strong start but were made to fight all the way by Lancs down the final leg before edging home 23-21.

The final saw Staffs take an early lead going 12-10 up, but winning the third leg 9-2 put them in pole position to win the match 23-15.



LADIES INTERCOUNTY
In the Ladies section Suffolk made a good start beating Cheshire 23-19, South Yorks had a narrow 23-21 win over West Mids, Kent beat Beds 23-20, Somerset beat Hereford 23-19. Favorites Lancashire beat Leics 23-10, Northants beat Surrey 23-19, Devon beat Northumberland 23-7, and Cleveland beat Gloucs 23-14.

The semi's saw some closer matches with Suffolk 23-19 winners against South Yorks, Kent recording a similar score against Somerset, Lancs winning 23-18 against Northants, and Devon beating Cleveland 23-10.

In the semi-finals similar scores saw Lancs beat Devon 23-15, and Suffolk beat Kent 23-16.

In a long final match Suffolk won the frst leg by the odd frame 6-5, but Lancashire hit back to take the second 7-4, another 6-5 to Suffolk in the third, the match went to 20 all before Suffolk won three in a row to win 23-20.


LADIES KO CUP
In the KO Cup Cheshire had a narrow 23-21 win over Somerset, South Yorks beat Hereford 23-19, Leics beat Cleveland 23-17, and Northants beat Gloucs 23-11.

Cheshire had a comfortable 23-18 win over Leics in the semi, as did South Yorks 23-12 over Northants.

In the final Cheshire went 8-3 ahead, but South Yorks took the second leg 6-5. A 7-4 third leg win to Cheshire put them well on the way to a 23-15 victory.



JUNIORS INTERCOUNTY
In the Junior section unfortunately we were three teams short. Lancashire, Warwickshire, and Kent received the byes. Leicestershire beat Northants 23-11, Staffordshire beat Cornwall 23-19, Essex beat Sussex 23-15, and West Midlands beat Nottinghamshire 23-11. The other match went all the way to 22 all, and Jaydn Browne, and Ieuan Clements won the two frames in the play-off for Norfolk to beat Somerset 24-22.

In the quarter finals Leics beat Lancs 23-14, Norfolk had a narrow win over Warwicks 23-21, as did Essex over Staffs with the same score, and West Mids beat Kent 23-15.

In the semi-finals both turned out rather one sided with West Mids winning 23-8 against Essex, and Leics beating Norfolk 23-12.

The Final also saw a comfortable win for West Mids by 23-13.


JUNIORS KO CUP
In the KO Cup Warwicks beat Northants 23-6, Somerset won 23-16 over Lancs, Kent beat Cornwall 23-14, and Notts beat Staffs 23-20.

In the semi's Kent overwhelmed Warwicks 23-9, and Somerset won 23-17 against Notts.

The final saw Kent beat Somerset 23-15.
